We were all ready. Our two children have been asking for a pet for several years so my wife and I talked about it and decided now was the time … time to get a family dog.

My wife had more experience than me in this area because, before I entered into her life, she opened her home to what must have been a very loving golden retriever she named Zane. She always talks fondly of her Zane and, even though it has been seven years since his much too early death, her eyes can still well up when talking about him.

Lori Gillon, executive vice president of the York County Builders Association, was six months into a promising relationship with a new marketing firm when the roof fell in.

The two had shared lunch over the summer after meeting in their golf league. Of particular appeal, given this new development, was the stability suggested by our 30-plus years and the fact that every one of our 10 employees has been here at least eight years.

When you spend your weekends hiking the Appalachian Trail, you leave nothing to chance. The idea of roughing it, like some sort of Valley Forge soldier, is not for the light hearted. You need gear that works.

So, obviously, you research your options. Which boots (Asolo) do the best job of keeping your feet comfortable while handling the tricky terrain in a sure-footed way? Which tent (Black Diamond). is most effective at keeping the outside out? And which sleeping bag is best? Hey, it can get pretty cold on a January night in the woods… like single digits cold.

Funny thing, though. After all that research, I noticed this past outing that three of the four hikers in In Praise of Word of Mouth continued »
