WinterGardens Quality Foods, of New Oxford, PA, is making an exciting splash in the independent grocery and convenience store market, thanks to an eye-catching offering of freshly-labeled grab-n-go salad selections.
Gone are the low-tech, generic-looking, black and white labels. In their place are bright, colorful, inviting CH&B-designed labels. Gone, too, are the old, round containers, replaced by square containers that are more easily and efficiently shipped and stacked.
What started as a request for concepts for pitching a specific chain of convenience stores evolved into a bold, new strategic direction for marketing WinterGardens’ salad line. And Campbell, Harrington & Brear, with its long history of packaging experience, was ready to provide the necessary design solutions.
The labels are full-color and laminated for a shiny come-and-get-me appeal. Their three most popular salads – Amish Macaroni Salad, Creamy Cole Slaw, and Dutch Potato Salad – each have assigned colors and are offered in three sizes. The remaining six items, destined for the C-store market, are offered in a 6-ounce one serving size, and feature a bright blue color scheme.
Each label calls out the item’s most striking nutritional claims to encourage sales.
“This is really a dramatic leap forward from a very homemade looking label to one that is easy to read and far more likely to attract the shopper’s eye,” says Angela Wenner, director of new business for CH&B. “And despite a compressed time line, we were able to complete the project in time for the start of the picnic season.”
In addition to designing the labels, Campbell, Harrington & Brear coordinated the graphics with the printer to ensure the best result.
“Overall, this is just another great example of our execution of label design and production and our ability to optimize the selling power of the space that is made available to us,” Angela says.
